Yo, she really exists.

She is so beautiful, but y’all knew that.

I’m still recovering from shock myself. I used to paint to her entire album.

Ten years. Still awe-inspiring.

I always get many questions and comments on either what I have on or how I put it together. I neeeeever do fashion blogs, though I am very conscious of how I represent myself every morning. One of the reasons I don’t do fashion blgs is becuase although I admire it, I don’t have that thirst and desire to constantly dig fr shit and become popular for wearing it once or twice. I mean it’s very exciting when you find rare pieces for dirt cheap or if you have some interesting ass story behind a particular heirloom, but I can’t dedicate most of my time to it for obvious reasons. (I would if I could! Trust!)

Another reason I never talk about my own style is because it’s one thing to be extra fashionable &  another thing to actually wear what works for you. You know how when people shop, shit looks better on the rack than on your rack? Yea so I constantly have to find the happy medium between shit that’s cool and shit that works.

Lately, I’ve been a thrift sto’ ho’. Yes, people.. I have decided I shall refrain from buying new clothes ever again, it’s just more fun to pay $5 for Ralph Lauren than $139. Y’know? So I caved into my sweater fetish & racked up on all this shit, and thanks to a homie who looked out I really just paid a dollar.. literally a DOLLAR.. for all these sweaters. (I still woulda walked out only having to pay $50 for these jawns, in real life they total substantially more.. duh!) Also, I have a thing for old purses.. the brown one below is a super vintage CEM from the 70s (Brazilian, square basket weave, cute shit). The black one? IDK. Hopefully one of y’all can tell me. I also cut a chain off another purse and had Margaux make it into a Chanel-inspired necklace. The tiny gold wire thing was a $6 bracelet with the name “Phyllis”. (I hate wearing it, it’s fucked up way too much shit by getting caught on threads.)

These are all Ralph Lauren, United Colors of Benetton, OOOOOOLD Tommy Hilfiger, Robert Scott, J Crew, Gap, Zara, and Brooks Brothers 346 (that one is normally $328!) allllll from the thrift store. For a few dollars. The hat & glasses aren’t so lucky, but since ppl ask abt that too.. I can’t give away all my secrets, but here’s a peek for those who asked. : ) I hope y’all are inspired to do the damn thing in a thrift sto’ near you.

While we’re on the subject:

So I mentioned on Facebook today that I was very proud of my Charles In Charge EP. I have been quietly working on a lot of shit, so that means I’ve been pissing a lot of people off who have attempted somewhat consistent contact with me. (Luhhh y’all.)

This EP is my baby; it’s my breakthrough, my style. Though heavily influenced by 90s jams/classical orchestral arrangements/west coasty/folk violin/dirty south 808s, it’s preeeeety fun. You’ll be able to hold her soon.

Pen Griffey, the same designer who helped me immensely with my No Bra Outlaw tees, is going to grace me with the EP art. I’d let you have a sneak peek but it’s actually that dope that we can’t show you til it’s alllllmost ready! He’s also artistically helping Margaux and I with our collab EP Laced. That shit’s dope too.

I got a few more paintings to finish and some other crap to get done, and then we can paaaaaarty!

The Making of “For Sophie”

23 Nov

I’ve been commissioned to create two paintings, with two polar opposite kinds of inspiration but full creative control. I’m excited about these two, particularly because I am trying techniques on every painting I work on from now until I pick a style I like. I definitely repeat themes in all my works, as a lot of you who have been to any one of my ArtBREAK shows I throw with Yazza already know. (Thanks for your continued support!)

This piece is called “For Sophie”. She’s a beautiful little girl who absolutely loves music, and reportedly hums along to my violin/viola covers with Margaux. I am a little inspired by texture lately, and of course I love colors so I want to experiment with a little of both. I already let the paint underneath dry; ironically it was an older painting, “Skittles In My Church Pocket”..Let’s be real. I hated it. But I love the circular brush strokes that bleed thru the layer I put over it, so I’ll let my head take me there when I revisit this later.

Hope y’all are as titillated as me.

LAST STOP :: Boston.

22 Nov

The Waken Baken Tour’s last stop was tonight in Boston @ the Paradise. Not only was this fucking magnificent because we went on a whim as we were celebrating an early Thanksgiving dinner with @KBELLO (i luh dat guh).. the Paradise also happens to be a stone’s throw from where I possibly (or possibly don’t) stay. Margaux and I enjoyed the concert from a pretty intimate view (the stage was all of eight feet big) and we also got to randomly halfway interview Big K.R.I.T., his fellow artist Big SANT, and their DJ Wally Sparks.

Wanna know what they said? Interview coverage COMING SOON!!

Here are a few images from that night.. the rest can be viewed [HERE]
